Maurice Utrillo
b. Paris, France, 1883; d. Dax, France, 1955

 

A renowned specialist in cityscapes, Utrillo’s city scenes and landscapes often are situated in Paris, with a focus on his Montmartre neighborhood. Perhaps most famous are his depictions of the Lapin Agile, a nearby cabaret frequented by contemporary artists and writers. Utrillo’s work is in the collections at the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, Russia, The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and the Musée d’Orsay in Paris, among other leading institutions.
