HOLOCAUST SURVIVOR SIMON GRONOWSKI AT LAGUARDIA HIGH SCHOOL

On March 12, 2014, the New York Foundation For Eldercare hosted a wonderful event at New York’s Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts. Mr. Simon Gronowski, a Holocaust survivor from Belgium — and an amateur jazz pianist — shared his powerful message of peace and tolerance before a large audience of students. He spoke about his remarkable escape in 1943 from a Nazi “death train” which was carrying him, his mother and his sister to Auschwitz Concentration Camp. Mr. Gronowski, then just 11 years old, jumped off the train after it was stopped by the Belgian Resistance, even as his mother and sister continued toward their deaths. He also spoke of his postwar experiences, including developing his love for jazz piano, and his professional life in the legal profession.
